The changing role of the manager in the era of digital transformation: challenges and opportunities

The article studies the impact of digital transformation on the role of a manager in modern business. The article reviews theoretical sources and approaches to determining the specifics of manager's functioning in the digital economy. Based on the literature review, a comparative characterization of the manager's role in the traditional economy and the digital economy is presented. A generalized scheme reflecting the challenges and opportunities of digital transformation of the economic environment in terms of the changing role of the manager is drawn up. The authors of the article draw attention to the fact that with the development of technology and the introduction of digital tools, managers must adapt and change their approach to the formation of the necessary competencies. The study of various approaches to defining the necessary competencies that an effective manager should possess in the conditions of digital transformation allowed us to systematize them in terms of three main groups - fundamental, digital and traditional competencies. The authors conclude that it is necessary to actively study and apply digital tools and constantly update professional skills in order to successfully adapt to new requirements and cope with the challenges of the digital transformation era.
